- Clever ways to include mushrooms in your diet -

Winter has began! Even though in Melbourne where I live, the days have been filled with sunlit, blue skies, we can feel whats around the corner by the way of those fresh, crisp mornings. Walking my children to school now involves a heat pack and a blanket for my little one in the pram! The colder months are upon us and it's time to start priming our immune system.
Mushrooms exhibits strong immune-modulating effects, deeming them appropriate for most populations, including those with auto-immune conditions where immune stimulating herbs may be contraindicated.
The nutrients in mushrooms fuel the immune system, the polyphenols stimulate our natural defence systems and other components are know interact with gut flora to improve immune cell function. They really are hero's for the immune system.
How to include mushrooms:
Purchase a packet of dried mushrooms such as shiitake mushrooms, Blend in a high powered blender to make a powder and add this into any meal such as a stew or soup. The Umami flavour acts like a stock and the benefits for your immune system are incredible!
Take a mushroom supplement such as a liquid, powder or capsule. this ensures a therapeutic dosage of the mushrooms active components.
Try new and different types of mushrooms from your local farmers market or grocer to add to your dishes. I've noticed new weird and wonderful ones popping up all the time for retail sale in the past few years. Try a new variety!
Grow your own! Kits for mushroom propagation are easy to find now at your local plant store. How satisfying to grow a superfood and nourish yourself from dirt to plate.
